How to get to Dr Kuri's Office

THE ABSOLUTE BEST WAY:

The offer is extended.  Wayne will personally escort persons into Tijuana, across the border. (Schedules Permitting)  I prefer to drive.

DRIVING [ MY HIGHLY SUGGESTED WAY TO DRIVE INTO MEXICO ]

Directions: To the Office of Dr Kuri
( For the prudent drivers out there )

IMHO: This is the best way to handle USA cars and the current post Sept 11 situation:

Drive South on Hwy 5 or 805 ( southbound )

Exit at the "LAST USA EXIT"

Turn right at the traffic light

and Immediately turn right into the driveway of "Border Station Parking"

(They are guarded 24/7 - Cost = $7.00 per day - But, Lock your car and remove all valuables from easy view from the outside)

Take the "MexiCoach" from the Border Station Parking into Tijuana ( $1.25 )

From the "MexiCoach" station in town, take a taxi to Dr Kuri's Office.( $6.00 )

( Taxi Instructions are located below )

DRIVING INTO MEXICO

Directions: To the Office of Dr Kuri
( For the adventuresome drivers out there )

Drive South on US Hwy 5 or 805 southbound.

Cross Into Mexico at San Ysedro, CA

Stay in, or get in, the Left Lane
Follow Signs to 3rd Street

HINT: The signs will indicate "Revolution Ave" and "3ra"

HINT: (3ra) is the Spanish shorthand for 3rd.

Stay or get into the left lane.

Left on OCAMPO ( the first light )

Continue to stay in the left two lanes.

All the way to Aqua Calente Blvd ( There is a light at this intersection )

When you get to the intersection:

OCAMPO runs North and South

Aqua Calente runs East and West ( Kinda )

His building is on the North West Corner

( Next to the vacant lot )

Turn to the right.  Pull into the second driveway.  Dr Kuri has reserved space for two cars.  - or -

Park anywhere you can find.

Cars are safe in this neighborhood.

The parking meters takes US quarters.

Don't leave anything of value visible from the outside of the car.

How to get North of The Border With a Car: (My method)

There is an excellent way to get North of the border.

Read and follow the directions of this URL:

Another Suggestion:

( If you don't think that you would like to drive into Mexico. )

Drive and Trolley Ride:

Go down highway 5 to any trolley station.

Park your car at the trolley station.

Take the trolley to the Tijuana border.

From the airport:

  • Take bus 992 [ Bus Map ] ,  or ask for map at the information booth in the airport lobby.

  • The bus passes by Americas Plaza Transfer Station.

  • You transfer there to the Blue Line trolley to San Ysidro. [Trolley Maps ]

  • It will help to look at both maps, on the bus map, look for the small circle and "T" between Kettner and Columbia Streets.  On the Trolley map, look for station #30.     Both of those are The Americas Plaza Transfer Station.

  • This portion of the trip cost $2.25 last time; be sure to ask for a transfer when you     get on the bus. The transfer works on the trolley.

  • There are route maps, timetables and rates posted  by the SDMTS

  • Get off at station #13 - San Ysidro.

Taxi:

Take the US Taxi to the Mexico Border at San Ysedro, CA

( San Diego Airport to Tijuana - $50.00 )

When you get to the Border:

You have 2 options.

Either:   Walk the ramp (uphill and long), which is a struggle with suitcases.

Or:    Take a local bus that sits right at the entry to the ramp. It saves the long walk with luggage. [ About $1.20 to $1.50 ]

a. You can take the bus all the way to the bus depot in Tijuana.   This terminal is very near Revolucion, the main tourist street.   [ It is about 1 miles North of Dr K ]

b. You can get off the bus just across the border (many locals did this as well to avoid the ramp walk) and take a taxi directly to the Grand.

Be sure to establish a price for the taxi BEFORE you get in.  [ The correct rate to the Dr Kuri's Office is $6.00, but they will charge you $8.00 - Stick to your guns - The price is $6.00 ]

Take lots of $1 and $5 bills. I've never had anyone refuse American money in my trips. It's amazing how many one dollar bills you can go through with tips, etc.
